I just spent a bunch of time in the basement "breaking in" my new Advent
econowaves. By breaking in, of course I mean blasting music while freaking out. Good stuff. For some reason these sound better louder...
These Selenium compression drivers sound great. I am bi-amping them using a 4 channel Yamaha MX-35.
Foam surrounds, made in the 70s, can be so brittle that they look perfect, then basically explode. Not even Weld-Bond glue could save them.
A rare glimpse into the lab. Can you count the unfinished projects?
I am really loving these speakers. the only tweaks I have made are to glop a bunch of hot glue on the back of the horns to make them a bit less plastic-ey. My plan at this point is to add another pair of advents (once I re-foam the woofers) to make this a "2.5 way" setup. This is where you have a second pair of identical woofers that just play from the baffle-step frequency down. I'm pretty sure I don't need the whole +6dB of BSC, so I'm not sure what this will sound like, but more bass is always better than less bass, ammiright or ammiright?
